Parentheses, square brackets, and braces

Common individual opening and closing characters. Use the exact form required by code, formulas, or the destination field.

Corner, lenticular, and angle brackets

Punctuation characters with separate identities. 〈 and 〉 are not the ordinary less-than and greater-than signs.

Writing-system characters used as frames

Actual Yi radicals and Tibetan marks. The decorative frame use does not replace their official character names.

Matching-pair layouts

Complete pairs with a space between their sides. Each value contains multiple characters; insert a short label between the sides where appropriate.

Bracket Symbols: names, Unicode, and HTML codes

Match the character to its name before copying. HTML codes are for website source; paste the symbol itself into a bio or message.

Use a matching opening and closing form

A short frame such as [ notes ] uses a left and right square bracket around readable words. 「 notes 」 uses corner brackets. Choose one pair rather than mixing opening and closing shapes unintentionally.

The matching-pair layouts supply both sides and a space. They are convenient editable sequences, not single paired-bracket Unicode characters.

A bracket-like shape may be a writing-system character

꒰ and ꒱ are Yi Radical Shy and Yi Radical Vep. ༺ and ༻ are named Tibetan marks. This page documents their identities while explaining the visual frame use found in decorative profiles.

Do not assume that a character with a curved outline is ordinary punctuation, or that using it in a frame changes its original identity. Use conventional brackets when a field or a formal text requires punctuation.

Decorative brackets cannot replace required syntax

〈 is Left Angle Bracket, U+3008, whereas < is Less-Than Sign, U+003C. Similar-looking characters can have different roles in code or formulas. The same caution applies to decorative braces and script-derived frames.

Use the exact punctuation your language, editor, or app expects. For a display-name frame, preview the saved result and shorten the label if either side wraps onto a separate line.

Sources and references

Unicode 18.0 supplies the individual character names. Empty-pair layouts and framed labels are editorial sequences by SnakeBaby, not new standardized characters.

How this collection is maintained

We pair ordinary bracket forms, distinguish angle brackets from comparison signs, and keep Yi and Tibetan character names accurate. Decorative use is documented separately from syntax and writing-system identity; field compatibility is not assumed.

How to use these

  1. Choose the exact character or combination and tap Copy. Labels and reference codes are not part of the copied text.
  2. Paste into a supported text field with Ctrl+V, Command+V, or the mobile Paste command. Replace any sample words with your own.
  3. Preview the saved text. Font differences and narrow fields can change the appearance or cause a longer combination to wrap.

Platform notes

  • A message, bio, display name, and unique account handle can have different character rules. Check the exact destination field.
  • Text glyphs depend on the font; emoji artwork depends on the app or operating system. Copying preserves characters, not this page's colors or drawing.
  • A missing-glyph box can indicate that the needed font is unavailable. Try a simpler character or another font where the app allows it.
