Text moon symbols

Font-drawn moon shapes and Star and Crescent. The combined star-and-crescent symbol has its own identity and associations.

Eight named moon phase emoji

Characters arranged from new moon through waxing and waning phases. This fixed selection is not an observation of today's Moon.

General crescent moon emoji

Use ๐ŸŒ™ for a pictorial crescent in a night-time note. Its decorative use does not specify waxing or waning.

Short moon and star combinations

Original multi-character labels and accents. Replace the sample words and keep a divider short enough for your saved profile.

Moon Symbols: names, Unicode, and HTML codes

Match the character to its name before copying. HTML codes are for website source; paste the symbol itself into a bio or message.

Text crescents versus moon emoji

โ˜พ and โ˜ฝ belong to a text-symbol block and are commonly used as compact crescent accents. ๐ŸŒ™ is a separate pictorial character, while ๐ŸŒ‘ through ๐ŸŒ˜ are individually named moon-phase symbols. Similar shapes do not make their code points interchangeable.

Unicode character names describe the selected identities. A decorative crescent is not an astronomical measurement, and different renderers can draw the same code point differently.

The eight phase shapes and their order

This collection places the phase emoji in the sequence used by NASA's Moon guide: new, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent. The labels help you choose a shape for text.

The fixed row does not calculate the current lunar phase, rise time, or what an observer sees in either hemisphere. Use an astronomical source for observation and keep the copied character as an illustration.

Choose a plain moon or Star and Crescent deliberately

โ˜ช combines a star and crescent in one character. Because that design can carry cultural or religious associations, it is not interchangeable with a plain decorative โ˜พ. Choose the character that fits your intended message.

For a night-sky profile heading, a short combination such as โ˜† โ˜พ โ˜† uses separately copied stars and a moon. It is a sequence of characters rather than the Star and Crescent character.

Fit a moon accent into readable profile text

Use one moon beside a short heading or interest. Jun ยท books and night walks is already a readable introduction; a leading โ˜พ adds a small visual accent without replacing the information.

If a longer moon-and-star divider wraps, remove a side star or shorten the wording. If the moon is missing, use the font troubleshooting guide rather than replacing it with an unrelated symbol.

Sources and references

Names and code points follow Unicode 18.0. The phase ordering follows NASA's Moon guide. Decorative combinations and usage notes are written by SnakeBaby; no live lunar calculation is performed.

How this collection is maintained

We separate text crescents, the Star and Crescent character, the general crescent emoji, and named phase emoji. Unicode names are checked against source data, and codes are calculated from copied values. Astronomy context is linked to NASA. Character names are not treated as precise observations or as a guarantee of identical rendering.

How to use these

  1. Choose the exact character or combination and tap Copy. Labels and reference codes are not part of the copied text.
  2. Paste into a supported text field with Ctrl+V, Command+V, or the mobile Paste command. Replace any sample words with your own.
  3. Preview the saved text. Font differences and narrow fields can change the appearance or cause a longer combination to wrap.

Platform notes

  • A message, bio, display name, and unique account handle can have different character rules. Check the exact destination field.
  • Text glyphs depend on the font; emoji artwork depends on the app or operating system. Copying preserves characters, not this page's colors or drawing.
  • A missing-glyph box can indicate that the needed font is unavailable. Try a simpler character or another font where the app allows it.

Quick FAQ

Are โ˜พ and ๐ŸŒ™ the same moon character?

No. โ˜พ is Last Quarter Moon (U+263E), a text character. ๐ŸŒ™ is Crescent Moon (U+1F319), an emoji character. A font can draw the text crescent differently from the app's emoji artwork.

Does this page show today's moon phase?

No. It provides a fixed collection of named characters to copy. Use an astronomical observation or a current lunar calendar when you need the actual phase for your location and date.

What is the order of the eight moon phase shapes?

The collection follows new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent. NASA's phase guide describes the astronomical cycle; the copied emoji remain illustrative shapes.

Is โ˜ช just a moon with decoration?

โ˜ช is officially Star and Crescent (U+262A), a distinct symbol that can have cultural or religious associations. Choose a plain moon such as โ˜พ or ๐ŸŒ™ when you only want a moon shape.

Will a moon emoji look identical on another phone?

The Unicode character can be the same while artwork, shading, or orientation differs by renderer. Text moons also depend on fonts. Preview the destination text and use words when the phase or meaning needs to be clear.
